Les Cocotiers Hotel

Does anyone have information on Les Cocotiers Hotel, Bay du Tombeau ?

I have a booking there in September, 2004. The price of air fares, including 6 nights accomodation from Australia was cheaper than just air fares with Air Mauritius and through some other travel agents (I'll never understand the travel industry) - hence my interest. Has anyone who has stayed there any comments or advice on the hotel itself ?

I went to Mauritius for the third time in three years this year. I stayed at Les Cocotiers in 2002 and 2003 and stayed elsewhere (in Grand Baie) this year to see what it was like. Here is what I think:

Les Cocotiers is a really nice, very clean, well kept hotel in an extremely convenient location. It is right on the bus route. The staff are generally quite helpful and the food is adequate, although not fantastic. You cannot swim at the hotel as there is a lot of coral in the water. If you want to go to the beach, Les Cocotiers has a shuttle service between themselves and their sister hotel, La Plantation, about fifteen minutes away.

The drinks at Les Cocotiers are overpriced just as they are at all hotels on the island. However, there is a cafe right across the road from Les Cocotiers. In 2002, I bought water and other drinks there at a fraction of the price charged by the hotel. However, in 2003, the cafe wised up and started charging prices similar to the hotel. However, you can buy inexpensive water and cold drinks all over the island (except at hotels).
